VSimulators is a unique state-of-the-art facility which could lend itself to research and innovation within Data Science and Analytics.

Big data in a raw format can be unwieldy to handle, extremely complicated and difficult to extract patterns. For organisations to thrive, data analytics is key to enable intelligent understanding as to the reality of what is happening. Immersive data visualisation is a new trend used by data scientist to help manipulate and perceive data within a virtual reality environment. Predicted trends include:

  • use of haptic interfaces such as eye tracking movement within headsets or body language
  • use of interactive techniques to enable users to walk around, reach out and touch data
  • ultra efficiency from data cross referencing techniques
  • helping to understand the subconscious mind
  • hearing and visualising data patterns, such as through 'sonification' of data patterns

VSimulators can handle multiple feeds of raw information opening development opportunities for new ways to visually interpret, analyse and use complex data sets.

The Institute for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (IDASI) at University of Exeter provides a hub for data-intensive science activity within the University and the wider region. Research expertise offers innovative means to interrogate and understand data, to innovate and apply cutting-edge data analytical methodologies. University of Exeter is a collaborative partners with the Alan Turing Institute. We offer a truly interdisciplinary team with data scientists, mathematicians and computer specialists across the University.

The Department of Computer Science at University of Bath undertakes research in human-computer interaction, mathematical foundations of computation and visual computing.

Research Funding Opportunities

Research funding is available under the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, particularly within the AI and Data Science sector, with an increasing demand for innovation lead solutions to industrial, environmental and societal challenges.
